CLEAN POWER GENERATION

With about $30bn a year of capital spending on major projects, the power sector has long been one of the strongest and most reliable providers of business and investment opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

About $348bn-worth of power generation and transmission projects are planned or underway in the Mena region between 2019-2025.

However, as MENA countries are rapidly growing energy consumers over the last few decades there has been a strong shift towards moving to a low carbon model.  Utilities are targeting renewables, nuclear and even coal-power to meet the rising demand for power in an effort to boost energy security, reduce the reliance on gas imports for power generation and improve the efficiency of power plants and desalination plants.

The route to addressing the energy transition will be different for each country and its individual energy requirements, resources and systems already in place.

Across the region, the price of solar has more than reached cost parity with conventional fuels which has helped to heighten interest in the green energy sector.  The issue is how to effectively integrate distributed renewable energy into the centralised generation system.

The Topics covered at the World Utilities Congress conferences include:
Fuel Mix, Energy Transition, Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Plant Refurbishment, Peaking Power Plants, Integrating Energy Storage, Wind & Solar Generation, Power Optimization, Digital Plant, Automation & Control Systems.
