Berta Picamal

DG Office, Legal and International Relations Director

FORATOM, Belgium

Berta Picamal is Legal and International Relations director at FORATOM, the trade association of the nuclear industry in Europe. She has a degree in translation from Barcelona University (ES), and from Université de Mons-Hainault, and a Master’s Degree on International Politics from the Brussels University.

She started her professional career in 1996 as Task Manager in the European Commission dealing with Nuclear Safety in the former Soviet Union countries (mainly Ukraine) through a program called TACIS. She also worked in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London and was in charge of analysing the Bank’s proposals for investment and to ensure compatibility with EU’s policies. She dealt with major investment projects in the nuclear sector (ie Chernobyl Shelter Fund and Nuclear Safety Account).

She started working in FORATOM in June 2004. She is in nowadays in charge of the Director General office and relations with FORATOM members and responsible for Legal issues related to EU nuclear policies (Euratom Treaty at large) and International Relations.
