Clayton Scott

Clayton Scott leads the commercial global business development activities, including the sales, and marketing and communication functions of NuScale’s products and services globally. Scott joined NuScale in 2022 with an extensive business development background and more than 40 years of professional experience in the nuclear sector including managing utility contracts globally; construction management; vast expertise in licensing and compliance, mergers and acquisitions, engineering design, and startup and operation of nuclear power plants. Throughout his years of global experience, he has demonstrated the ability to open markets, raise brand awareness and close deals.

He understands the importance of how sovereignty matters – that partnership between industry and state. He has navigated in this space and truly understands the impacts if not appropriately supported. He has the vision and ability to understand how to position energy solutions both now and into the future within the power sector by aligning - industry, regulators, and governments in the international landscape.

Formally, was the Senior Vice President – Global Sales, Deputy Director I&C Business Unit for Framatome is responsible for the global I&C sales, P&L within the group and a global footprint of more than 2000 staff. Mr. Scott is driving new business at the Ministry levels in Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and others. Being fluent in English and French, he is also culturally fluent in Asia (having lived in Beijing for three years) as well as Europe, Middle East, and Russia.

Prior to Framatome, he was the Chief Nuclear Officer for Schneider Electric, responsible for the company’s global nuclear organization, P&L, operations, engineering, sales, marketing and business development at offices and facilities in North America, Europe/MENA, and Asia. Responsible for the largest plant new build Digitization efforts in nuclear, delivering eight new build units in China - consisting of Control Room Design and all the Safety and Non-Safety Controls Systems.

Before accepting this position, Scott served as the Chief Nuclear Officer of Invensys’s global nuclear business, responsible for P&L, sales, business development, strategy, risk management, operations, and engineering.

Leading to that role, he was President of CRS Engineering, a multi-discipline engineering and design-consulting firm. In that position, he provided business development consulting to clients in the global energy sector, as well as provided strategic marketing analysis, project evaluation and design and digital architecture services with a focus in the global utilities market.

Scott is an active member of various technology committees. He was appointed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to chair a taskforce on harmonizing digital licensing issues globally. He is a frequent lecturer on various topics within the energy sector. He is a member of the University of Tennessee Advisory Board, and member of the Xiamen University Advisory Board in China.

Scott carries dual citizenship between the US and Canada, in which he has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Irvine, Leading with Finance from the Harvard Business School online, and began his career with Ontario Hydro, where he was involved in commissioning and start-up of four CANDU units at the Pickering Nuclear Power Station in Ontario, Canada.
