Jihad Mahamid
Secretary General
Ministry of Water & Irrigation, Jordan
Mr. Al Mahamid holds a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology / Integrated Water Resources Management – Groundwater Mathematical Modeling using GIS and Remote Sensing from Freiberg university/Germany. He has more than 28 years of national, regional and international experience in integrated water resources management with focusing on using a technical modern tools to manage water resources in proper way such as water modeling (groundwater and surface water), GIS application and remote sensing.
He started working at the Water Authority of Jordan in 1992 as a hydrogeologist which includes preparing hydrogeological maps, cross sections, Pumping Tests Analysis, field measurements, water sampling …etc. During the period 1998-2002, he joined the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. He was responsible to develop and calibrate the surface and groundwater modeling on the wellfield level and basin level. More than 20 technical reports on groundwater and surface water modeling have been implemented for wellfields and water basins in Jordan. Also, he was responsible to do the specific technical reports to asses and evaluate the potentiality of water resources taking in consideration increasing demand as well as climate change effects.
He joined the League of Arab States - Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) as water expert during the period 2006-20012. He was the Manager of Integrated Water Resources Management Program. Also, he was the main expert and trainer for groundwater resources assessment and modeling in the Arab Regions. He was responsible to implement and evaluate water quality assessment and preparing groundwater Vulnerability maps using DRASTIC and other approaches. In addition, he was developer and trainer for the tool of WEAP-MODFLOW Linkage between surface and groundwater resources in the Arab Regions.
He was the Director of GIS and Mathematical Modeling Directorate at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Jordan during the period 2013-2016. Also, he was Secretary General Assistant for Technical Affairs and Director of Monitoring and Water Resources Studies during the period 2016-2020 as well as Minster’s consultant for water resources and water basins in Jordan. He is doing now as Secretary General for Ministry of Water and Irrigation. He has experienced in working and collaborating with international funding agencies including BGR, GIZ, USAID, WHO, UNESCO, EU, UNDP, FAO…etc.
Mr. Al Mahamid, has a good experience in using GIS software and other related software to water resources management such as MODFLOW-GMS, PMWIN, ASM, VM (Visual MODFLOW), PMPATH, MT3D, WMS, SMS, SMADA, SWAT, WEAP, WEAP-MODFLOW Linkage …etc.
