AbdulAziz Al Obaidli joined TAQA in 2018 leading UAE Assets for the Generation business line. TAQA is a top-10 integrated utilities player in the EMEA region by regulated assets. The company’s UAE portfolio includes 13 operational power generation and water desalination plants across totaling 18 gigawatts and 913 million imperial gallons per day. The company also has 4.4 GW and 200 MIGD currently under construction.Mr Al Obaidli has more than 13 years’ experience in thermal power generation, including renewables. Prior to joining TAQA, he was at the Shams Power Company, the project company of the Masdar-led 100 MW Shams concentrated solar power (CSP) plant in Abu Dhabi.
His career began in 2006 as a field engineer with Dubai Aluminum, a smelting facility with a 2.3 GW captive power plant. Mr Al Obaidli became a research engineer at Masdar Research Network where he was a guest scientist for a joint initiative with the German Aerospace Center to explore and develop an integrated combined cycle solar power plant.
Mr Al Obaidli earned an M.Sc in Energy Engineering (specializing in power plant technology) from RWTH Aachen University in Germany and a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from UAE University. He also received the Emirates Energy Award in 2013 and is a member of the Zayed Future Energy Prize Review Committee.
