Marco currently is the Vice President of Operational Excellence at TAQA T&D focused on driving continuous improvements in asset management, operation, and maintenance at the three TAQA T&D operating companies in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE. In his role he works closely together with senior leadership in TRANSCO, ADDC and AADC to identify improvement areas and support their efforts related to operational excellence 

From 2018 till 2020 Marco was the Digital Grid Leader for Latin America at EY responsible for the advisory services and tools in the Power and Utilities domain related to the future of networks, advanced grid operations, AMI and Utility Wave. 

Before that Marco worked as an associate consultant with several major consultancies in the MENA region in subject matter expert roles on Smart Grid development. He also was the Director Smart Grid PMO for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for 4 years managing the program of 11 programs with a budget of one billion US dollars implementing the DEWA Smart Grid Strategy. 

He received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic in Arnhem, The Netherlands and has worked for over 32 years in the field of Smart Grid, Protection, Control, Monitoring, Advanced Metering Infrastructures, Distribution and Substation Automation.  

He was a member of IEC TC57 WG 10, 17, 18, 19, the IEEE PES Power System Relaying Committee and CIGRE B5 and D2 working groups. He was the convenor of D2.35 and editor of the Quality Assurance Program for the Testing Subcommittee of the UCA International Users Group. He holds one patent, has authored and presented more than 58 technical papers, is co-author of four Cigré Technical Brochures and two books on Smart Grids and Electrical Power Substations Engineering and is the author of the “I think” column in the PAC World magazine.
