Jamal Al Ahbabi
Radioactive Waste Management Director
Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC)
Jamal Al Ahbabi was appointed the Radioactive Waste Management Director for the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) in 2020. His responsibilities include the management and oversight of ENEC’s radioactive waste management strategy and the development of a long-term plan for handling and storing high-level radioactive materials as a result of the operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
Prior to his current role, Jamal was ENEC’s Radioactive Waste Management Manager from 2016 to 2020. Before that he held several positions in ENEC’s Nuclear Fuel Management department since joining the company in 2011. He started his career in 2008 as a Next Generation Network Engineer at Emirates Advanced Investment (EAI) – Center of Excellence and Development.
Jamal is the UAE representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Technical Working Group on Nuclear Fuel Cycle Options and Spent Fuel Management since 2017. He is also a member of the Khalifa University Nuclear Program Advisory Panel.
Jamal holds a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
