Inaugural edition of World Utilities Congress successfully concludes in Abu Dhabi

The three-day exhibition and conference held in Abu Dhabi, hosted by TAQA and organised by dmg events, gathered over 10,000 trade professionals and 120 exhibiting companies who sought to promote proactive measures to digitalise power and water systems, control emissions, and attract long-term capital investments. The Congress brought together over 200 industry expert speakers, over 1000 conference delegates, and hosted more than 50 strategic and technical conference sessions, including a Nuclear Energy Leadership Forum.

Day two’s conference highlight was the ministerial session titled ‘Balancing decarbonisation and energy security’ which was a key session that brought together global leaders to gain deeper insights into different decarbonisation pathways. Speakers included; His Royal Highness, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, Minister of Energy Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, United Arab Emirates.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure for the UAE, inaugurated the first edition of the World Utilities Congress today. A first-of-its-kind event, the World Utilities Congress offers an unrivalled opportunity for the global power and water industry to converge and discuss trends, and explore technologies and innovations influencing future power and water demand, right here in Abu Dhabi and hosted by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA). As a result, some 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to water, and a total of 2.7 billion find water scarce for at least one month of the year, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). In addition, climate change has brought new challenges such as droughts, floods, and storms exacerbating water scarcity.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed a strategic agreement with the World Utilities Congress. ENEC will play a central role in supporting the Nuclear Energy Leadership Forum, a key part of the overall Congress, which will address the future of low carbon power and water supplies. Taking place on 09 and 10 May, the Forum will focus on the role of nuclear energy in tackling the parallel challenges of energy security and sustainability, the deployment of safe and reliable nuclear energy for clean electricity generation, technological advancements in nuclear energy, the latest updates in research and development of nuclear science and more.
