Gergo Varhegyi is a Technical Executive at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in UAE. He is a seasoned professional with more than 17 years of experience in power systems consultancy, focusing on transmission system planning, renewable energy integration, and energy market analysis. Currently, he serves as a Technical Executive at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the UAE, focusing on grid resilience, renewable energy solutions, and energy storage integration.
Previously, as Head of Grid Consulting for Siemens Energy in the Middle East and Africa, Gergo led strategic advisory services and grid modernization projects, solidifying Siemens Energy’s regional prominence in grid stability and energy transition. With expertise in renewable integration, grid stability, and Power-to-X solutions, Gergo has delivered impactful projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Before that, his career has been distinguished by influential roles across utility, industrial, and consulting sectors in diverse geographical regions including the UK, Hungary, and the Middle East.
He is pursuing a PhD at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, researching the techno-economic optimization of modular energy storage technologies for grid balancing and ancillary services. He is an IET Chartered Engineer (CEng) with an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology and Economics in Budapest, Hungary, and an MBA from University of Roehampton, London, UK
