EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) drives the planning and forecasting, purchase and supply of water and electricity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and beyond.

EWEC aims to optimise the cost of these utilities by increasingly relying on renewable power, while also diversifying power generation sources to include solar and nuclear to bring clean electricity to the country’s energy grid.

EWEC performs its role as the sole procurer of water and electricity to drive the short and long-term balancing of supply and demand and partners with world-class developers to ensure sustainability through long-term purchase agreements, and bulk supply tariff sales agreements with distribution companies. While ensuring supply security, EWEC also seeks to contribute to the UAE Energy Strategy 2050's goal of expanding the total energy mix to 50 percent by increasing clean electricity, while reducing the carbon footprint of power generation by 70 percent.

By pursuing these policies in areas such as renewable energy, nuclear power, and gas power plant efficiency, EWEC is working to reduce the average carbon intensity of its system by more than 70 percent by 2030 compared to the 2015 level.  EWEC is committed to supporting the government of Abu Dhabi, and the government of the UAE by enabling the reduction of cost whilst also providing the increased security that comes from a larger and more integrated system.
