Dr. Hasan Charkas brings extensive experience in engineering, research, and program leadership, overseeing a team of technical experts focused on advanced nuclear power plant design, advanced manufacturing and materials, advanced fuels, project deployment, construction execution, and commissioning. In this role, he directs collaborations with EPRI subject matter experts, utilities, technology developers, and industry stakeholders to help de-risk and accelerate the deployment of next-generation nuclear power plants worldwide.

Prior to joining EPRI, Dr. Charkas served as Engineering Supervisor for Vessel Internals Engineering Qualifications at Framatome Inc. in Lynchburg, Virginia. He led a team of engineers responsible for qualification programs, structural evaluations, and stress analyses of components within nuclear steam supply systems (NSSS), ensuring compliance with nuclear industry codes and regulatory requirements. He supported outage repair and replacement activities for major components.

Before his tenure at Framatome, Dr. Charkas worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Structural Group, Inc. in Elkridge, Maryland. In this role, he developed structural rehabilitation and strengthening solutions for deficient, deteriorated, and under-designed infrastructure and building systems.

In addition to his industry experience, Dr. Charkas has delivered numerous engineering seminars and served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses in statics, strength of materials, structural analysis, and advanced strengthening techniques.

Dr. Charkas is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Kansas State University.
